FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Dress to Impress for Work and Business Engagements

Business Image is Important

In business, image is crucial to success, even more so if you are as a small-business owner/entrepreneur, everything from the way you greet clients to your style of dress reflects directly on your company. If this seems unfair, consider for a moment how closely people identify themselves with life’s smallest details.

Appearance is essential
Watch your appearance. Although it is a sad fact, it is true that humans always judge others by their appearance. That in turn forms their first impression of you and they judge you from that. Because of this it is vital to appear neatly and professionally dress. The way you look will influence peoples impressions of you very strongly; so make sure you leave a good one.

Why Appearance Matters
Without really thinking people judge us before we talk.  We walk into a room and heads turn, eyes stare and yes we are being judge on how we look but we all do it. It's human nature. Depending on your industry dress up or dress down is important.  A suit may not be required but when meeting business contacts for the first time, dressing to be taken seriously is vital. A jacket and a pair of heels or business coordinates (a suit may not always be required), however we do assess these attributes based on appearance. If you are doing a presentation to prospective clients wear a nice suit (even dress and jacket), you will wow them. All the ingredients - knowledge, preparation, and appearance - are necessary to make a good impression.

Dressing Your Professional Best
Whatever your professions, your business attire should be cut well and of good quality fabric. Spend a little bit more but you are worth it and you will reap the rewards. New business contract, renewing of an old contract or even new networking contacts all because you invested in yourself. A dress with a matching jacket or trousers/skirt with a matching jacket is ideal.

Take a Moment to Assess Yourself and Analyse Your Image
Take a minute to assess yourself. Does your dress reflect the industry you are in? Are your clothes professional/business dress? Do you remember when you last went to the hairdresser had a good cut and even colour? Your shoes are they clean, presentable and say that you are a lady?

Less is MORE
Want to be taken seriously by both sexes? You want to dress like you can deliver the product and not just stepped out of a high fashion magazine shoot. Your clients may be blinded by your clothes but can you really deliver with integrity and authenticity? Many think skirts with deep slits, short hemlines, and blouses that show cleavage will  get attention, get that promotion or even seal that business deal.  When really they can be sexually suggestive and distracting.

What Do Your Clothes Say about you?
Business women/professional or student? Stand out from the crowd of the navy blue/black suit brigade. However, it is important that you keep your sense of individuality in the workplace and let your personality shine through. If have to wear a ‘uniform’ and like bright colours but want to keep in conservative try a handbag or a coat as this will add a pop of colour to your outfit.
