Did you know that a good image can increase your profits? People will notice you more and can lead to more sales.
Recently
I attended a workshop for women business owners/entrepreneurs. Many fed
up with the corporate world and are taking the first steps into being a
business owner, and some even have established companies. As I looked
around the room I saw that many had forgotten how important their
personal image is.
When you leave your home to go a business event
you are representing your company. It is important especially if you
are a designer and you design accessories, then you should be wearing or
carrying them/using them. Nothing is better than your own PR. Always
remember people buy from people. You may think it doesn’t really
matter how I dress I am not going to a business meeting, however you
are representing your company in a business environment and you’ll never
know when you might meet potential clients/buyers or even investors.
Perhaps
it’s because I am a Stylist, and more aware of how people dress, your
public image that you portray is very important to your personal brand
and your business.
Mismatched clothes, clothes that are not ironed
and even clothes that are too small send out the wrong signal. Some get
up in the morning, grab the nearest item and then go off they go,
without even looking in the mirror and saying 'mmm How do I look'. Many
people have asked me "does it really matter how we dress?
People don’t really judge us by our clothes, or do they?" Well, I hate
to be the bearer of bad news, but people do judge you based on the clothes you wear.
I
confess; I made an instant judgement at that event. Forgive me I am a
Stylist and I notice most things. Maybe I was wrong but if you don’t
take care of yourself as far as I am concerned, you may not take care of
me as a customer. How can I take you seriously when you are standing
there looking unkept, clothes need ironing and you are trying to sell me
a product or service? Remember first impressions are lasting
impressions…..
Whether you’re walking down the street, or sitting
in a business meeting; people are constantly aware of what your
presence. Don’t get a complex about it, that’s just life. The way you
dress and image is a direct extension of your company. No one is saying
that you should be wearing expensive clothes like Saville Row hand-made
suits and designer labels. The high street has many great shops. Take
pride in your appearance.
Your clothes you should be clean, ironed and presentable, hygiene is another important factor that should be taken seriously.
